Peace and Blessings Everyone

Today, I was just browsing over some Youtube videos while having breakfast. I didn’t expect that this simple way of “passing my time” would turn into an experience that would change my viewpoint of this world even more dramatically. A close friend of mine mentioned to me that we are all modern day slaves. I thought it referred to the fact that are all enclosed into this system that is economically crippling towards the poor and middle-class families.  So I started learning about this and came across how consumerism and globalization is having a negative impact on the individuals living in the third world. So, I educated myself in these issues and started keeping an eye on how I consume things. But what I came across today is even something beyond. We are talking about real slavery here where people are caged in boxes, enslaved, beaten voilently, bought and sold, manipulated and disposed off like some commodity. UNBELIEVABLE!  I thought we got of rid of this quite a while ago.

Check this educational video about.

Remember, we humans share a common bond of humanity. If one is enslaved, we all consciously or unconsciously suffer the consequences.

So, what an we do to stop this exploitation of people like us?

Modern Day Immigrant Slavery

The ABOUT section of this video says

It has been the stance of Community Watchdog Project that illegal immigration is the modern day slavery. Elected officials like City of New Haven Mayor John DeStefano support and facilitate this humanitarian disaster through their political policies. Only a few months ago our national politicians wanted to enact a temporary amnesty in order to help the economy during a possible recession – why not repeal the Emancipation Proclamation? Our politicians are disgraceful, but we need to begin removing them from office starting from the bottom with people like John DeStefano.

By Loretta Napoleoni

07/05/08ICH” — – Slavery is in our refrigerators. From fruit to beef, from sugar to coffee, slave labor brings food to our tables. “Miguel,” a Mexican slave freed by the Coalition of Immokalee Workers, a US human-rights organization, may have harvested the apples we eat at breakfast. Miguel picked fruit under guard in the United States. He had traveled to el norte to earn the money to pay for treatment for his six-year-old son who has cancer; instead, his employer enslaved him.

The cocoa we drink while reading the newspaper or watching the morning news shows may come from the Ivory Coast, which supplies half the world market. Children and adolescents from even poorer neighboring countries, such as Mali, trek all the way to the cocoa plantations to earn a subsistence salary. Often, they end up working as slaves in remote farms. “Nineteen-year-old Drissa was one such young man. When he was freed in 2000, he had just gone through a ‘breaking-in’ period as his master accustomed him to enslavement. His back was laced with scars and wounds from being whipped.”

Almost every product we consume has a hidden dark history, from slave labor to piracy, from counterfeit to fraud, from theft to money laundering. We know very little about these economic secrets because modern consumers live inside the market matrix.

Brampton, Ont. – About 200 people protested outside the Brampton provincial courthouse, Tuesday, in an effort to have the charges dropped against the remaining alleged terror suspects, who were accused of belonging to a homegrown terror cell.

Last week, a judge stayed charges against four adults.

Charges were dropped against seven of the 18 originally arrested almost two years ago. Many of them spent time in solitary confinement before getting bail hearings.
