Wikileaks whistleblower Bradley Manning is being tortured in a US military prison. Manning is subjected to utter isolation that can drive many people insane, with short periods each day where he is stripped naked and abused by jeering inmates.

Manning is awaiting trial for releasing secret military documents to Wikileaks – including a video of US soldiers massacring Iraqi civilians. And his brutal treatment appears to be part of an intimidation campaign to silence whistleblowers and crack down on Wikileaks. The US government is split on this issue, with diplomats publicly criticizing the military for Manning’s treatment, but President Obama has stood aside so far.

I haven’t had much time to post but today I read something really horrible. Hence, I decided to post it here. Read the full report here. “EXCLUSIVE: Controversial Drug Given to All Guantanamo Detainees Akin to “Pharmacologic Waterboarding”

A two-month investigation lead by Truthout’s Jason Leopold and Jeffrey Kaye reveals for the first time that the Defense Department forced all “war on terror” detainees at the Guantanamo Bay prison to take a high dosage of a controversial antimalarial drug, mefloquine, an act that an Army public health physician called “pharmacologic waterboarding.”

The US military administered the drug despite Pentagon knowledge that mefloquine caused severe neuropsychiatric side effects, including suicidal thoughts, hallucinations and anxiety. The drug was used on the prisoners whether they had malaria or not.

Interviews with mefloquine and malaria experts and a review of peer-reviewed journals and hundreds of pages of government documents show there were no preexisting cases where mefloquine was ever prescribed for mass presumptive treatment of malaria. The use of the drug in this manner may have violated a provision in the anti-torture statute related to ”mind altering substances or other procedures” that “profoundly disrupts the senses or the personality.”

Flood in China

Family members mourn the victims of landslides in northwestern China’s Gansu province. (Li Gang/Xinhua/Associated Press)

According to an article Guardian Co.UK, over 130 dead and 800,000 displaced after torrential rain sees rivers swell and houses hit by landslides. The article stated that the worst destruction took place in Zhouqu in Gansu province which was inundated by muddy water and debris when heavy rains caused the Bailong River to overflow.

Aung San Suu Kyi, Burma’s pro-democracy leader and Nobel Peace laureate, symbolises the struggle of Burma’s people to be free. She is currently detained by Burma’s brutal regime in Rangoon, Burma. She has been under arrest for over 14 years.

MTV debate about G20

I was just watching the debate titled “IMPACT” by MTV News where they were discussing the issues surrounding the G20 protest. They said that we can follow the program on MTVnews.com. I believe they will be posting the program here after a while. I will keep a look out for the program on Youtube. I am hoping that this video will be posted on Youtube sooner or later.

What I found really funny was that nothing was done to prevent the protest. Involvement of the police provocateurs in the violence still needs to be determined. For instance, notice how the security guy at 00.51 sec. in this video didn’t arrest the person who smashed the window.

Alright as we play the video, I do see some people getting arrested but I don’t really see what they did.

This is not Canada. There are no Civil Rights here.

I seriously don’t see why the cops are harassing these civilians let alone why they were tailing them. That looked really weird to me.
